This pen and letter opener set features hoop pine timber. Hoop pine is a premium Australian native cabinet timber. The timber is typically light brown to cream, sometimes with a yellow or red hue. It is a very fine and evenly textured wood with a straight grain. The growth rings may be visible but not distinct. Sometimes hoop pine is afflicted with blue/grey fungal staining, which makes it even more attractive. The timber is used for furniture, boat framing, plywood, paper (pulpwood), and wood turned objects. Because it is harvested as a plantation species, hoop pine has “green” credentials. The natural uniqueness in the woodgrain and timber colour variations, means that each wooden fountain pen we create is one of a kind.

This set is created by an artisan who hand turns each wooden item on a lathe in North Brisbane. Using a meticulous thirteen step sanding and polishing process and 10 coats of CA we highlight the simple, innate beauty of the hoop pine timber.
