A letter opener is a handy addition to any household or office, it will effortlessly slice open all envelopes with ease, leaving lovely smooth paper edges. This letter opener is handcrafted from rain tree timber.

Rain trees are massive umbrella-shaped trees that grow to 60m tall with a crown up to 80m wide. It is particularly valued for its timber, and for shading crops but also supplies medicine for stomach ache, sore throats and skin conditions. Rain tree pods are edible, containing a brownish, sticky, liquorice-like, sweet-flavoured pulp. A lemon-like fruit drink can also be made from the pulp. The popular, heavily striated rain tree timber is straw to smokey coloured and commonly found growing in tropical north Queensland, though it is not an Australian native. A truly stunning timber. The natural uniqueness in the woodgrain and timber colour variations, means that each  letter opener we create is one of a kind.

Each Byron style letter opener is handcrafted by an artisan who hand turns each one on a lathe in North Brisbane. We use a meticulous thirteen step sanding process and 10 coats of CA we highlight the simple, innate beauty of the timber. The natural uniqueness in the woodgrain and timber colour variations, means that each letter opener we create is one of a kind.

Need it personalised? We personalise timber pens, pencils and pen boxes. Type the exact word or initials needed along with your font suggestion in the text box provided. We will contact you to confirm your engraving prior to it being laser engraved. Please specify if the engraving is for a left or right hander.

Need it gift wrapped and posted direct to someone? Add the name and address of the receiver in the text box, we will gift wrap and send on your behalf. The package will include the senders name (yours) but will not include an invoice.
