Wooden Gearshift Pen - Australian Red Cedar Timber (Chrome Fittings)

The Gearshift pen range is bold and classy. The mechanism features a five-speed H pattern shifter and can be shifted just like the real thing! The cap features a car tyre with a true to life tread and hubcap. The pen tip features the same tyre tread as the cap. The shifter handle includes an etched five-speed pattern. The final touch is an industrialised crowbar clip attached to the gearshift pen body with two small screws. The quality metal fittings are a striking contrast with the individually handcrafted timber pen body. This pen has classy chrome fittings.

Every wooden pen is created by an artisan who turns each pen on a wood lathe in North Brisbane. Using a meticulous thirteen step sanding and polishing process and 10 coats of CA we highlight the simple, innate beauty of the timber and create an exceptional, super glossy and durable finish.

This Gearshift pen is made from Australian red cedar timber. Australian red cedar is possibly Australia's most celebrated native timber with its very fine grain in reddish brown and fine dark brown striations along the grain. In the 19th century red cedar dominated the interiors of colonial Australia and was used extravagantly for fine furniture and joinery in places such as Government House and Sydney Town Hall. Unfortunately many of the tall strands of red cedar were decimated on the NSW coast during the first 100 years of white settlement. In 1795 it became Australia’s first export as it was not economically sensible to send ships back on a six month voyage with an empty hold. Red cedar is still highly sought after and readily available in North Queensland. The natural uniqueness in the woodgrain and timber colour variations, means that each wooden pen we create is one of a kind.
