Sierra Wooden Mechanical Pencil - Rain Tree Timber

This timber mechanical pencil is created from rain tree timber. Rain trees are massive umbrella-shaped trees that grow to 60 m tall with a crown up to 80 m wide. It is particularly valued for its timber, and for shading crops but also supplies medicine for stomach ache, sore throats and skin conditions. Rain tree pods are edible, containing a brownish, sticky, liquorice-like, sweet-flavoured pulp. A lemon-like fruit drink can also be made from the pulp. The popular, heavily striated rain tree timber is straw to smokey coloured and commonly found growing in tropical north Queensland, though it is not an Australian native, it is a truly stunning timber. The natural uniqueness in the woodgrain and timber colour variations, means that pencil we create is one of a kind.

This distinctive wooden pencil is created by an artisan who hand turns each pencil on a wood lathe in North Brisbane. Using a meticulous thirteen step sanding process and 10 coats of CA we highlight the simple, innate beauty of the Australian rain tree timber and create an exceptional, super shiny and durable finish.

This Sierra style mechanical pencil has black and 24 karat gold plated fittings and features a click mechanism which reveals the pencil lead. It comes ready to draw with one 0.7mm pencil lead, you can find mechanical pencil refills here. It has an eraser at the end of the cap. To access the eraser, remove the end cap; to access the pencil lead chamber and add your refills, remove the eraser.

This pencil comes standard in a protective velvet pen sleeve. You can add a quality black presentation box or an engrave-able timber box below.
