Wooden Pencil - Blackheart Sassafras Timber (Stratus Style)

The Stratus pencil has a classy and sleek form, it is perfectly weighted and is ideal for the desk, workshop, drafting table or studio.

This functional mechanical pencil features quality chrome fittings. It has a heavy-duty, sturdy and reliable 2mm lead, and includes an eraser in the cap plunger. The top, when unscrewed from the pencil, features an internal sharpener to renew the point. Buy additional pencil leads here.

Each Stratus pencil is created by an artisan who hand turns each pencil on a wood lathe in North Brisbane. Using a meticulous thirteen step sanding process and 10 coats of CA we highlight the simple, innate beauty of the timber and create an exceptional and durable finish.

This Stratus pencil is created from blackheart sassafras timber. Blackheart sassafras timber is grey to golden brown with a very fine grain. Some trees are infected with a fungus which causes attractive smokey grey streaks within the timber. The bark of the blackheart sassafras tree is aromatic and was used for brewing sassafras beer and the 1889 book The Useful Native Plants of Australia records that "The fragrant bark of this tree has been used as tea in Tasmania." The natural uniqueness in the woodgrain and timber colour variations, means that each wooden pencil we create is one of a kind.

This pencil comes in a velvet protective sleeve. You can add a quality black presentation box or an engrave-able timber box below.
