Sierra Wooden Pen - Spalted Silky Oak Timber (Chrome Fittings)

The Sierra is our signature range, a definitive, functional and popular writing instrument.

This Sierra pen is turned from silky oak timber which is spalted. Spalting is a valued wood colouration process caused naturally by fungi. Spalting increases the contrasts of light and dark colours in the timber and makes brown and black lines running through the wood appear. This timber was grown on a beautiful block of land in Grafton (NSW) owned by my father and fell due to natural causes and lay undisturbed in its bushland habitat enough years for the spalting process to begin. It was then carried on the shoulders of a man in a flannelette shirt, strapped onto the roof of a Toyota Landcruiser, travelled to sunny Queensland where is has been sawn into pens, pencils, letter openers and ice cream scoop blanks.

This distinctive wooden pen is created by an artisan who hand turns each pen on a wood lathe in North Brisbane. Using a meticulous thirteen step sanding and polishing process and 10 coats of CA we highlight the simple, innate beauty of the spalted silky oak timber. Our finish is highly durable, smooth and glossy. The natural uniqueness in the woodgrain and timber colour variations, means that each wooden pen we create is one of a kind.

This Sierra pen has black and chrome fittings and features a click mechanism which reveals the nib (gold fittings available also).  It comes with black ink and takes a standard Parker style pen refill. Find our quality Parker style pen refills here. Yes we can custom make you a matching chrome letter opener.

This pen comes standard in a protective velvet pen sleeve. You can purchase a quality black pen box or engrave-able timber box below.
