This gift set features gidgee timber. Australian gidgee wood is an acacia timber prized for its strength and durability. Gidgee is one of Australia's hardest timbers. The heartwood is a deep, rich brown colour and the outer sapwood is very pale. Gidgee timber has a very fine grain and can be highly figured. The indigenous Kalkadoon people made nulla nulla's, shields, boomerangs, swords and clapsticks from gidgee’s rich, brown wood. It is popular today for knife making, turned bowls, pens and jewellery boxes and recently musical instrument makers have begun using it.
