This story wood Sierra pen is turned from ironbark. This ironbark timber is recycled from 100 year old supports from the railway bridge at Bogantungan, QLD.  Bogantungan is 930 km north west of Brisbane and 350 km west of Rockhampton. Ironbark is a very distinctive Australian hardwood that is prized for its strength and durability. The heartwood is a deep dark red to red-brown with a fine texture. Indigenous Australians used ironbark timber to make clapsticks and spear throwers. Industrial applications of ironbark timber include shipbuilding, wharf and bridge construction, railway sleepers, piles and poles. Ironbark was reputedly used in the hulls of early ice-breaker ships, croquet mallets, gymnastic parallel bars and bowling ninepins.

This wooden pen is created by an artisan who hand turns each pen on a wood lathe in North Brisbane. Using a meticulous thirteen step sanding and polishing process and 10 coats of CA we highlight the simple, innate beauty of the ironbark timber and create an exceptional, super shiny and durable finish. The natural uniqueness in the woodgrain and timber colour variations, means that each wooden pen we create is one of a kind.

This Sierra pen has gold fittings and features a smooth click mechanism which reveals the nib. It has premium black ink and takes a standard Parker style pen refill. Find our quality Parker style pen refills here.
